Colorado KCPA Bill Fails at House Committee

UPDATE: The bill was passed in the final hours of the legislative session for Colorado! The bill goes into effect July 1, 2023! Great Job Colorado!
The Colorado House Sub-Committee of Health and Finance struck down our KCPA bill that we've been supporting with the American Kratom Association. We do not have full details yet but it was passed in the state Senate 32-2 almost unanimously and the House decided they didn't like a single word in the bill and instead of working with us, decided to kill the bill.
What does this mean? Kratom is still legal in Colorado. However, there are many companies selling kratom that is not tested at best, and adulterated with synthetics such as methadone at worst! This bill was designed to provide penalties to companies doing this which puts consumers and uneducated users at high risk for major complications! We are decidedly upset and extremely disappointed at this decision by the House. We are going to do our best to pray and hope for a Hail Mary solution before the end of the legislative session but if this is not possible, the KCPA will need to wait until next year and we start the entire process all over again. This process is not cheap and the American Kratom Association has spent tremendous amounts of money in Colorado only to be simply shut down by a group of about 9 people who decided the entirety of the Senate was wrong.
As frustrating and infuriating as this situation is, we must remember that our political system is not always putting our interests first. Special interests and politics are constantly in the way of sound bills and laws that protect and secure people's safety and health. We plead with the State Congress of Colorado to realize that what they are doing is allowing potential bad players to continue selling product that isn't safe! Their decision doesn't change anything, it just allows the issues to continue instead of taking appropriate action to help protect their constituents.
Until the bill can be passed PLEASE TELL YOUR FRIENDS AND FAMILY NOT TO BUY KRATOM UNLESS IT IS LAB TESTED AND FROM A cGMP COMPANY LIKE LAUGHING LION HERBS!
