Product Review - Indo Kratom

When you do your first internet deep dive into the world of kratom, there are some words and phrases you see all over the place: Maeng Da, Thai, Hulu, and Indo kratom, among others. At first, it can be a lot to take in. Some people talk about all of these as if they are their own specific strains with unique genetic characteristics like you might expect from other plants.

The truth is that there are actually only three true strains of kratom:

  1. Red Vein Kratom
  2. White Vein Kratom
  3. Green Vein Kratom

Sometimes you might see gold vein kratom products, but even that is only a blend of red and white kratom. This all begs the question, what exactly is Indo kratom powder?

What Is Indo Kratom?

As is the case with other kratom products like Bali kratom, Thai kratom, and Malay kratom, Indo kratom refers to the place of origin. These words are all geographical references, which are normally paired with references to the strain (green, white, or red vein kratom). This all might lead you to believe that your kratom is coming from all over Asia, but again, this is a misconception.

Where Does Indo Kratom Come From?

Indeed, kratom does grow naturally in many different parts of Asia, but that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s coming from those places. In fact, about 95% of all of the kratom sold in the United States comes from Borneo, and specifically, from the South Kalimantan region of Borneo. Without getting too into the weeds with a geography lesson, it’s worth mentioning that the island of Borneo is politically divided into four parts:

  • Kalimantan – part of Indonesia
  • Sabah – part of Malaysia
  • Sarawak – also part of Malaysia
  • Brunei – its own tiny nation on Borneo

Wait a minute... How did we get from kratom to geography and politics?

The point is this: because most of our kratom comes from Kalimantan, and Kalimantan is part of Indonesia, the overwhelming majority of all kratom in the United States is from Indonesia. Therefore, when you buy kratom in the United States, chances are you’re buying Indo kratom whether or not you realize it. Even the products we call Hulu, Thai, or Maeng Da kratom are actually likely to be Indo kratom in that regard.

Is Indo Kratom Expensive?

Now that you know most kratom in the United States is Indo kratom, the relative cost of Indo kratom is essentially a moot point. Some specific types or batches of kratom are more expensive than others (because of their quality, where exactly on Borneo they were grown, and other factors), but you’re still normally comparing Indonesian kratom to other Indonesian kratom.

Does it all make sense now? Good thing we took that little digression into geography!

Indo Kratom Customer Reputation

Much like when we compare price, comparing the reputation of different batches of Indonesian kratom against each other doesn’t make a ton of sense when it comes to country of origin alone. That isn’t to say all Indo kratom is the same, because it isn’t! There are other distinguishing factors to consider:

  • Strain – red vein kratom vs. white vein kratom vs. green vein kratom
  • Quality – how carefully the kratom was harvested and processed
  • Purity – whether or not the kratom has been contaminated or mixed with anything else

The strain is a personal preference. Some people prefer red, white, or green vein kratom over the other varieties. Quality and purity have a lot more to do with where you buy kratom.
