Discuss kratom experiences with context
People describe different experiences with kratom powder. Honest accounts can help identify questions for research and bring attention to possible problems, but they do not establish that a product is safe or effective for everyone. Discuss positive experiences, unwanted effects and uncertainty with the same care.
Personal experience is not a treatment claim
A person's account describes what they experienced. It does not prove which ingredient caused that experience or show that kratom treats a medical condition. Product composition, other substances, health conditions and patterns of use can complicate interpretation. Do not encourage someone to replace prescribed care or manage opioid withdrawal using a retailer's advice.
Ask what kind of evidence supports a claim
Laboratory studies, animal studies, customer surveys and controlled human studies answer different questions. A survey can describe what respondents report, but cannot by itself establish cause and effect. Check the study design, participants, product information, limitations and publication date. Our kratom research and safety guide discusses survey findings and their limits.
Reported adverse events and uncertainty
Nausea, constipation, dizziness and drowsiness have been reported. Serious events, including seizures and liver injury, have also been reported in people using kratom. Some reports involve other substances, variable product composition or incomplete information. That uncertainty does not establish that kratom is risk-free or rule out its contribution to harm. Regular use can lead to dependence and withdrawal.
Include the product type
Plain-leaf powder, concentrated mitragynine extracts and products containing added or elevated 7-OH are different. Do not treat a report about one as proof about every other product. If discussing a product problem, retain the packaging and note the label, batch number, amount, timing and other relevant details for a healthcare professional or appropriate reporting channel.
In 11 years of testing our plain-leaf powder, Laughing Lion has not seen a 7-OH result above 0.01%. This describes our testing history; check the available report for your batch. Naturally occurring trace 7-OH in plain leaf differs from added or concentrated 7-OH in enhanced products. A low 7-OH result alone does not establish that a product is risk-free.
FDA policy and the history of kratom research
In 2017, FDA supported placing mitragynine and 7-hydroxymitragynine in Schedule I. In August 2018, HHS withdrew that recommendation and warned that scheduling would impede critical research. This documents support for restrictions that would have created research barriers; it does not establish that FDA stopped a particular study.
The research record has since developed. FDA reports funding human studies of botanical kratom, and in June 2026 NIH announced that its investigational new drug application for a purified mitragynine formulation had taken effect with FDA, clearing the way for a phase I trial. These developments do not establish medical benefits or safety for retail products.

Discuss claims respectfully
Link to original research or official source material when possible. Distinguish documented facts from opinion, and avoid accusing others of dishonesty without evidence. Do not dismiss someone else's adverse experience because your own experience was different. Our team can help with labels, orders and available batch reports; medical questions belong with a healthcare professional.
Important safety information
For adults 21+ only. Do not use if pregnant or nursing. Do not combine with alcohol, opioids, sedatives or other drugs. Discuss medications and medical conditions with a healthcare professional. Do not drive or operate machinery after use. Keep away from children.
Regular use can lead to dependence and withdrawal. Adverse effects and serious events have been reported in people using kratom. Other substances and incomplete information can complicate interpretation, but do not establish that kratom is risk-free. Stop use and seek medical advice for an adverse reaction or difficulty reducing use. A seizure, trouble breathing or loss of consciousness requires emergency help. Kratom is not an FDA-approved treatment; our products are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent disease.
