COVID-19 and Kratom, Myths and Truth

NO KRATOM DOES NOT CURE COVID 19!

Kratom has been made a political issue. On one hand, that’s helped more people become aware of this plant. On the other hand, it has also led to the rapid spread of misinformation about kratom. The American Kratom Association (AKA) is one of the biggest allies for the kratom community, and they’ve asked people to completely refrain from making any claims that kratom can help treat COVID-19 in any way.

Why Can’t I Say Kratom Helps COVID-19?

The AKA has a good reason for asking people not to spread claims that kratom treats COVID-19 or can prevent infection with the coronavirus. That reason is that there’s simply not significant evidence to support these claims. Some comments about the effects of kratom have recently been published by Dr. Thamrin Usman, who is a researcher at Tanjungpura University in Indonesia. Dr. Usman has claimed that tropical kratom plants can help people ward off COVID-19 or treat its symptoms because it strengthens the immune system.

Unfortunately, that’s only the opinion of a single individual who simply doesn’t have the support to back it up. Honest and experienced members of the kratom community know how important it is to create an open dialogue surrounding kratom without making wild or unsubstantiated claims. One of the great things about the American Kratom Association is that it’s committed to helping people find the truth about kratom. They serve that mission by calling out misinformation from both sides of the kratom debate.

What Will Happens if I Claim Kratom Cures COVID-19?

If you’ve been interested in the kratom community for a while already, you probably know about how the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has tried to get kratom banned. There are a wide variety of theories about why the FDA has it out for kratom. Maybe the organization truly believes that kratom is dangerous, but many people think the FDA is trying to outlaw kratom to protect the pharmaceutical industry.

Either way, the FDA monitors the claims made by manufacturers, distributors, and vendors of kratom. They’re looking to make sure these kratom businesses don’t make any inaccurate or unsubstantiated health claims. With so much scrutiny on the community, we don’t want to give the FDA any reason to take an even more aggressive stance against kratom.

The Food and Drug Administration has already gone after dozens of CBD companies for making claims about the effects of CBD on COVID-19. One company didn’t even directly say that CBD can cure the coronavirus. All they said was that it was “possible,” and that CBD would help people relax during these times of panic and uncertainty.

The organizations that have made those claims received warning letters from the FDA, claiming that “failure to immediately correct the violations cited in this letter may result in legal action, including, without limitation, seizure, and injunction.” You don’t necessarily have to be a legal expert to see how threatening that is.

Given the way the FDA just went after these CBD companies, we want to make sure they don’t have any reason to go after kratom next. They already seem to have it out for the kratom industry, and we want to do everything in our power to make sure we don’t give them any reason to accelerate their war against kratom. While this makes it especially important that businesses don’t make unsubstantiated or inaccurate claims about the benefits of kratom, it’s also important for individuals and consumers to share their stories honestly.

Why Is It Important to Spread Accurate Information About Kratom?

The Food and Drug Administration isn’t likely to take action against an individual citizen for making claims about kratom. Why, then, is it still so important to tell the truth about kratom? Here at Laughing Lion Herbs, we think it’s critical that everyone can make their own informed decisions about whether or not they want to buy kratom.

That makes it important to resist the FDA’s efforts to make kratom illegal and start a prohibition on it. It also makes it important to reduce the amount of misleading or completely false information about kratom on the internet and in the media. It’s good for individuals to share their personal stories with kratom, but making wild or unsubstantiated claims is bad for the community.

When the kratom community stays focused on only spreading true information about kratom, it will be easier for individuals to make informed choices about kratom. In other words, people can focus on actual kratom stories instead of misleading information about the benefits of kratom. We want to protect people’s access to kratom, and we also want to protect their ability to make good choices with accurate information.
